WITH 96% OF THE VOTES, PANAMA IS ELECTED TO THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL

On June 6, 2024, the Republic of Panama secured a position as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-2026 term, having received 183 out of 190 votes in the elections held today during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

The Security Council is primarily responsible for maintaining international peace and security. Starting January 1, 2025, Panama will assume a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the sixth time, with the highest percentage of votes it has received in its five previous terms as a member.

Panama congratulates Denmark, Pakistan, Greece, and Somalia, countries that were also elected today, and looks forward to working constructively in the United Nations Security Council during the 2025-2026 term.
