Edward's breakthrough came at the 2007 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships in São Paulo, Brazil. Amidst fierce competition, the young Panamanian sprinter blazed across the finish line, securing the gold medal in the 200 meters—a triumph that marked the beginning of his remarkable journey.

In 2009, Edward stunned the world at the World Championships in Athletics held in Berlin, Germany. In a thrilling display of speed and determination, he powered his way to the silver medal in the 200 meters, cementing his status as one of the world's most promising sprinters.

Alonso Edward's career is studded with an impressive array of achievements and milestones. He has clinched multiple medals in prestigious international competitions, including the Pan American Games, Central American and Caribbean Games, and IAAF World Championships. Notable among his victories is his gold medal at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he dominated the 200 meters with a sensational display of athleticism.
